Conference Vision 99, 12-16 July 1999, New York

Good tests should be simple for both examiner and patient and give measurable and comparable results.
We try to assess even traces of vision in multihandicapped and visually impaired children since we know that visual functions can develop.
Enhancement of vision in the first year of life means progress in general development.
Dr. Lea Hyvarinen tests satisfy those requirements. They can be used for healthy and multi-handicapped infants and children. We can assess normal and impaired vision, at various stages of development. We can use them for therapy and for visual assessment of vision. With those tests we can assess several level of visual functioning.
Improvement of vision and, consequently, of general development gives an extra chance of improved life quality for children and for their families.
